Stock Your Lake With a Variety of Species of Fish

If you want to get rid of the mosquitoes and midge flies in your lake, do it by stocking your lake with fish of different species. The fish help reduce the larvae and mosquitoes, and the lake becomes an aquatic sanctuary for successful fish habitat.

We have fish such as - Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, and Channel Catfish. Rely on our company personnel to perform salinity, oxygen, and pH level tests, conduct surveys of exotic fish, and more.

Create an Environmentally Balanced Lake Today

Maintaining a healthy and diverse population of fish is important to create an environmentally balanced lake. Turn to us to analyze your needs, and we'll provide you with the right fish stocking program.

We have a variety of fish like:
  • Largemouth Bass
  • Bluegill (bream)
  • Catfish
  • Sunshine Bass
Lakes facing certain weed problems may benefit from an integrated water management program that utilizes the combination of herbicide applications and the Triploid Grass Carp - a weed-eating fish.

Depending on your needs, we'll discuss the recommended species, the number of fish required for your lake or pond, governmental requirements, timing, expected results, and costs. Call Superior Waterway Services to learn more!

  • Improved sunfish and minnow populations that help reduce midge fly larvae and mosquitoes
  • Healthy lakes add value to surrounding real estate
  • Reductions in exotic fish species through removal and competition for habitat from other fish and wildlife
  • More ways for residents to enjoy the lake or pond

Methods to Assess Current Conditions for Fish

Fisheries lake assessment
  • Examine and evaluate the water and surrounding areas, record symptoms
  • Perform fish habitat and cover survey
  • Conduct water chemistry testing
Lake mapping
  • Detailed map of entire pond or lake
  • Monitor bottom sedimentation over time
  • Accurate depth contours, volume, vegetation, and hardness
  • Identify fishing hot spots to increase angler catch rates
Electrofishing surveys
  • Analyze data to estimate population sizes by species
  • Remove and record numbers of non-native species or overabundant fish
  • Sample standardization
  • Survey and record species and numbers
  • Identify any abnormalities in size distribution
  • Tag prize fish for family fishing tournaments
  • Track individual fish growth over time
Fish habitat enhancement
  • Install artificial fish structures
  • Identify natural options to increase habitat
Lake management for fish
  • Aeration to increase dissolved oxygen
  • Aquatic weed and algae control
  • Bioaugmentation and littoral planting
Fish feeding program
  • Scheduled feed fill
  • High-quality automatic fish feeders
  • Fish feeder installation and maintenance
Fish stocking
  • Replace fish after a ‘fish kill’
  • Increase sport fish populations
  • Add Gambusia to control midge fly population
  • Introduce Triploid Grass Carp to control certain aquatic weeds

Sport Fish for Your Lake or Pond

There are different kinds of sport fish and they all aid in balancing the ecosystem in your lake. Learn more about the various native freshwater fish we can provide you with:
  • Bluegill - Also known as Lepomis macrochirus, belongs to the sunfish family. They prefer to reside in shallow, warm, and vegetated areas of lakes and are often stocked to provide food for largemouth bass. They reproduce rapidly, so it's important to keep a sufficient number of bass to keep them in check. Young bluegills help by eating microscopic animals, while the adults eat the insects, small crayfish, fish eggs, and occasionally small fish
  • Largemouth bass - Micropterus salmoides are also members of the sunfish family and Florida's state freshwater fish. This fish is used for stocking ponds to maintain a healthy fish community. They prey effectively in warm, vegetated areas of the lake. When they are young, they prey on microscopic animals, but as they grow into adults, their diet consists of crayfish and fish. They are a favorite for sport fisherman everywhere
  • Channel catfish - Ictalurus punctatus is a member of the catfish family. They grow in ponds but do not reproduce in the pond unless containers are provided for them to spawn in. However, it is not recommended to provide containers for spawning, otherwise, there will be an overpopulation of catfish. This catfish is mainly found in the seafood section of the grocery store

Learn More About the Triploid Grass Carp

The triploid grass carp is also known as nature's aquatic weed control. Hydrilla is an aquatic weed that causes a lot of problems in water systems throughout Florida. Using a triploid grass carp is a safe and effective method to get rid of weeds in your lake or pond.

Advantages of the Triploid Grass Carp

  • Longevity – They live an average of 5 - 9 years
  • Cost – Once established, the lake provides for all their needs
  • Consistency – They never stop eating
  • Effectiveness – They prefer some of the most unfavorable weeds
Unlike other methods of control that are determined by the area of water, fish stocking for vegetation control is based on the number of weeds present. The feeding rate of the grass carp is an additional factor that is taken into consideration. We will evaluate your lake to determine the best stocking rate.

We will also help you in obtaining permits that are required to use or possess
grass carp as per Florida state rules.
